Disaster Preparedness at Memorial Hospital

disaster preparednessI have had the opportunity to attend several Disaster Preparedness Classes while being employed here at the hospital. And let me tell you, the first one or two I sat through were almost painful. I had a hard time understanding how we could prepare for a disaster when we had know idea what the disaster might be or to what extent it would affect the hospital or the community. The terminology and the acronyms at these classes seemed foreign.

The job roles of all of the individuals involved seemed so complex. Well now that I have attended several more classes, it is all starting to make sense. We will never know what disaster or emergency may affect us some day, but knowing our resources and having them available will give us that extra step to make sure that we can handle it as smoothly as possible. We all pray that a disaster never happens, but if it does, Memorial Hospital will be ready as we can be.

Marianna's motherhood advice About the Author:
After graduating from Fremont Ross High School, Marianna Snavely received a nursing degree from The Ohio State University. She did this in order to fulfill two personal goals: helping people and making a difference in the ever changing and challenging world of health care. Marianna’s first job out of college was at Memorial Hospital, where she learned the ins and outs of being a new graduate working the night shift as a nurse. Since then, she has earned her MBA from Tiffin University and returned to Memorial as the Director of Health Care Education. Marianna is truly excited and grateful to be part of the MHCS team, even as she cheers on her beloved Buckeyes and chases her two young boys.
